Chateau de Versailles was modelled to Louis XIV's wishes; that everything be created for the service of the king, his pleasure and his magnificence. I think he pretty much got what he desired. The Chateau and gardens are fabulous - unbelievably so.
We explored much of the palace gardens today, but even second time around I have not seen all of the garden.
After visiting the palace and wandering the gardens, which have cafes hidden away like the surprise fountains and groves, we visited the Grand Trianon - Louis' getaway from court life.
Unfortunately the Petit Trianon, Marie-Antoinette's estate, was closed today for "Fermeture Exceptionnelle" - very disappointing, but it did give us the opportunity to spend more time in the gardens.
I did not intend to take photos of the palace interior because it's impossible on my little camera to illustrate the grandeur of the rooms and the art they contain, but with the exhibition of Jeff Koons' work in the palace rooms, it gave a point of focus for the photos. Hopefully, from the photos Brent has taken, you can get a glimpse of the gorgeous interiors.
Even the palace grounds were a backdrop to two of Jeff Koons' sculptures.
We had a wonderful day - and you can tell that from the smug look on our faces in this photograph. If there was a caption, I think it would be, "This is Brent and Sally, reporting live from Versailles."

Hi Sally - I am in the office with Mummy today and she gave me your website to look at - it is fantastic. I wish I could go to france. I loved the photos, especially of the balloon dog and the sculptured gardens.
The 'photos are superb, and after such a wonderful day you both are entitled to a smug expression. L&G
