We headed off to Gare de Lyon to buy our train tickets for tomorrow. We will be catching the train to Melun to visit Vaux-le-Vicomte by candlelight and staying overnight at Chateau de Courtry, then taking the train on Sunday to Chateau Fontainebleu.
My French was so good (?!) that when buying the train tickets we nearly ended up on the train to Milan (Italy) instead of Melun (which I now know is pronounced Merlun) - a difference of 7 hours travel and a country border ... it's really tricky that French "e"!
Tickets in hand we spent a few hours exploring the Bastille arrondissement. This area is home to shops specialising in design and young, alternative designers. It poured with rain and we ducked into Bar des Soupes for lunch ... carrot and coriander pour moi and veloute (velvety) squash for Brent. C'etait tres bon!
Found a fabulous jewellery shop with a mixture of new and old (I might just return there!) and Brent got excited in the Lazy Dog, a shop specialising in books and goods showcasing graphic and graffiti artists, including "le space envahisseur". We noticed some of the Space Invader's work last year and you can see his mosaic-tile graffiti in the photo below.
Wandered home through the streets of the Bastille and the Marais, absorbing every inch of the streets, the doorways, the surprise at every corner. If my feet didn't feel so sore I'd just keep walking.
Tomorrow we head off to Melun (not Milan!) and will be back in Paris on Sunday evening with more news and pics. Love to all xoxo

After visiting the Vaux-le-Vicomte website, I am sure you must be delighted to be arriving in Melun, and not Milan. This visit should be a absolute treat. L&G
Hi Sally,
It looks like you're having a fabulous time and everywhere looks so intersting - unlike Spark and Cannon where it remains uninterestingly the same. Keep up the great blogs. Alison.
