De plus en plus de pluie

More and more rain!  A good day for doing not very much...but success with the couch purchase!  Stopped at Monoprix for some groceries, juggled bags with the umbrella while we selected treats at Au Sanglier and then home to the cozy apartment.

This weekend is Journées Européennes du Patrimoine (heritage days) when monuments, churches, hotel particuliers and administrative buildings are open to the public, some with guided tours.  Many of the buildings are only open to the public on this one weekend.  We visited many sites last year but were not inclined to queue today in the rain...the French are such patient queuers!  Snaking lines of pointed umbrella tops were visible everywhere...emerging through ornate, ancient doors, down steps, around corners, disappearing into the rain.  Maybe tomorrow for us...

As I have been lazy with the photos today, I've included a pic of Romeo and Angel on holiday at Catnapping...we miss their furry faces.

Hi Sally and Brent

Are you sure you just popped into Monoprix to buy groceries? It sounded more like your funds are running low and you had to resort to busking to raise a few francs - you did say you were juggling bags with umbrellas. Was it a double act with Brent feeding you the bags while he balanced an umbrella on his nose?

Still it was cheap entertainment and unlike the heritage attractions the locals didn't have to queue - except if they were already lined up at the register. Actually the queues must have been phenomenal because they even made it onto the Australian news.

Apparently one of the workmen who was setting up for tours of a Sixteenth Century mini-golf course at Versailles accidentally left a 'QUEUE HERE' sign propped up against a wall. One old lady saw it and promptly stood obediently in front of it. She was joined by others and eventually the 950,000 person line snaked out of the property, down the Route de Saint-Cyr and it was only when it crossed the Belgium border that local authorities put a call through and the sign was moved.

Keep the photos coming - excellent as usual.

Cheers, Paul

I'm sure Angel and Romeo are missing your not-so-furry faces too, and checking out your blog wishing they were gazing out an ornate french window watching the umbrellas pass. Hope your having an amazing time!

Paul, I must say that I enjoy your comments almost as much as Sally's blog!
