Brussels...a little fix of la langue française

After five weeks in Sicily and Malta, which are different but also similar in many ways, Belgium is a complete backflip!  It's a well orchestrated city network of trams, trains, buses...we are hearing Flemish for the first time, mixed with French, and I'm loving hearing (and speaking a little of) the French!

We arrived last night at the guest house...and it's something special!...but today we took the metro from Louise to Gare-Midi, then connected with Brussels-Midi station for the intercity to Bruges, a 50 minute train trip.

I might mention it's 15 degrees, grey clouds with rain forecast, and we've both bought a jacket this morning, as we're well equipped for the beach but not for the start of European autumn!

So, cozy in our new jackets, we spent the most part of the day wandering around Bruges.  It's rather gorgeous...a bit quaint, an architectural mix of the ornate and functional, and we could easily spend a few days.  On our way back to the station we stopped for a made-to-order, warm Belgium waffle...mine with honey, Brent's with Elderberry jam..delish!
