A quiet dimanche

Sunday in Paris is always heralded by church bells...a reminder, I think, to rest and enjoy life.

We had bought some pain de mie (Japanese soft bread) yesterday and started the day leisurely with toast and French press coffee at the apartment. It's heading quickly to 32 degrees today, so we planned a quiet day. A wee bit of cleaning...although the rental in this apartment includes a weekly cleaner, so we don't need to do much...just make ourselves scarce for three hours on Tuesday while the cleaner is here!

The apartment has a day bed and two very comfy couches with huge cushions...perfect for a couple of hours reading time. Feel that holiday mode!

About 4pm we headed out to stretch legs and pick up a baguette and a treat. The streets are quiet as many stores and restaurants are shut on Sunday. We visited a bakery new to us...La Pâtisserie Cyril Lignac...and the bread looked scrumptious. We'll definitely be back! For today, a baguette and two rather decadent cakes, which we ate, perched on a park bench (painted in that instantly recognisable Paris green!) in the shade.

And now it's aperitif time...the sound of church bells floating in through the open windows...a fine way to bring Sunday to a close.

You certainly listened very closely to those church bells, and why not, with the weather so warm........and you are on holiday,

No church bells here in Melbourne today - just a few beeping car horns as we made our way down to our own French bakery, Filou. Temperature here was 10 degrees cooler than Paris today. Friday is only going to be 12 degrees so enjoy the Parisian heat.
