Walked the streets close to the apartment to get a feel for the area. We're one block from the Georges Pompidou centre and its pipes and colours just dominate whenever it pushes into the view. It's great from the inside, and has the most awesome book/gift shop, but it takes some effort to love it from the outside. Free entry on the first Sunday of the month, so more of the inside then.

Down to Hotel De Ville (the town hall with the mostest - I just love this building) across Pont d'Arcole to Notre Dame. Brent wants to climb to the bell towers but the queue is not worth contemplating - maybe another day. If he goes up, I want photos of gargoyles and a bell called Emmanuel. Wandered through Notre Dame, marvelling at the sheer size of the artworks, and the planning and resources behind a structure that took 200 years to build.
Walked to the Latin quarter to visit Institute du Monde Arabe, Jardin des Plantes and the Pantheon. The Pantheon has an Emile Zola exhibition set up in the crypt, which was great - full of "letters to the editor" and satirical cartoons. The crypt was cool, hushed and eerie - a lower level of the Pantheon with cell type rooms housing the remains of the likes of Pierre & Marie Curie, Victor Hugo, Voltaire, Alexandre Dumas and Emile Zola.
