Strollin' and metro'n to and from the Arc

Bonjour nos amis and ma famille, it's sooooooo good to hear from you via the posts. They bring les grand sourires.

Breakfast at Au Petit Fer a Cheval, my fave cafe from last year - metro to Jardin du Luxembourg. Day was overcast but with sunny breaks. Had lunch in the gardens. The waiter was very cheeky, but he did congratulate me on my v.good French (merci, Anita!!). Just for Susan, here we are in the Jardin du Luxembourg - moi with huuuge baguette (called a sandwich here!) and Brent posing as a gentleman.

Metro'd to Gare de l'Est to pick up our train tickets to Reim for Saturday. Another outstanding French language performance by moi (merci, merci Anita!). The only thing I didn't understand was when the very handsome, young man explained where we should validate the ticket - until I realised he was saying the "small yellow box" in English, albeit with a v.strong French accent. The station is a phenomenal size and the building, like most buildings in Paris, is glorious.
Metro'd to Arc de Triomphe. The traffic roundabout makes me grateful we're not attempting to drive in Paris. Brent decided to climb the spiral staircase to the top of the Arc, then he decided not, then he decided he would. I am no help with this as my feet are firmly rooted to the ground. Brent wanted to fake a gammy leg and go up in the lift, but I was disapproving and suggested he have another cigarette and go on up, which he did. He came back with some great photos.

Walked the Champs-Elysees (first McDonalds I've seen) till we got tired and metro'd home, via the boulangerie to pick up some dinner. Brent is trying every version of a toasted sandwich - croque monsier, croque madame, croque provencal, croque midi - and every version of a hotdog. Moi, I'm just trying to find something without cheese. Will post photos of the croques in due course.
