A few hours in Rennes

After our stop at Mont Saint-Michel we had three hours to spare in Rennes before our connecting TGV back to Paris. We headed to the Office de Tourisme and picked up some maps and over dejeuner - at an outside table in a sunny square - Brent charted a walking tour around some places of interest. I love it when he does the mapping and I just sit there, glass of vin in hand, nodding with interest (no, not nodding off!) but able to indulge my preference for people watching and window shopping from where I sit.
As we walked we agreed that Rennes looks really interesting and it appealed to us as a possible long weekend trip next year (next year!!). The architecture dates from prior to the 15th century and there appears to be an old town and a new town, similar to Nancy. Rennes is also a great base for visiting towns in the Normandy and Bretagne regions, and we would especially like to visit St Malo, a medieval walled town on the coast.
Brent was won over by some graffiti we saw - "I love frites" - frites being french fries. When we were in Aix-en-Provence we discovered that any panini you buy is avec frites - but not just on the side or as an optional extra - they're stuffed inside with the panini filling! Mmmm from Brent...

Hi Sally & Brent, Rennes certainly does look interesting, and a visit to St Malo would be quite a treat - something to look forward to. L&G
