Nuit Blanche

A warm autumn Saturday night for Nuit Blanche and the Parisien crowds were out, out, out! We spent our time "Autour de l'Hotel de Ville", which centres on the 3rd and 4th arrondissements, visiting what we could before we ran out of steam. Loved the ghost market in Place Baudoyer: a shrouded market stall where you bumped your way through vertical, illuminated cylinders listening to distorted musical renditions of the calls of market sellers. There was one particular installation we missed out on - at 23h30 the queue stretched for three street blocks! We read that the Christian Boltanksi installation in the Montmarte-Anvers sector of Nuit Blanche was a wait of two hours at 4h AM!! Read an interesting article today that said that in these times of global crises the success of Nuit Blanche was, perhaps in the most part, due to people feeling the need to go out and do things as a community. Whatever their reasons, the community in Paris was certainly out and involved, and prepared to wait!
