It is 150 years since Victor Hugo published Les Miserables and we visited the Maison de Victor Hugo today to see an exhibition of his original writings and illustrations by Gustave Brion, all set in the context of the Hugo apartment in Place des Vosges.
Also visited the Musee de la Vie Romantique to see an exhibition of watercolours of room interiors painted between 1820 and 1890. After the sombreness of the Les Miserables illustrations, the soft watercolours were a delight - illustrating the finest details of tasselled curtains, furniture, rugs and decor of the time.
For lunch...a quiet break in the rose garden romantique.
