Marsalforn, Gozo

Caught the bus today to Marsalforn, a former fishing village that is now really a holiday area.  The main street frames the bay with a line of restaurants and cafés, and there is a small sandy beach...but we followed the coast and found a great swimming spot away from the town centre that suited us fine.  We had packed our Lipari jiffies...and they came in useful today as the sea-bottom was a mix of rock ledges and sandy drops.

Spent the afternoon in the sun and then the bus home (the house we're staying in is located in Victoria, in the centre of Gozo).  We're getting good at this beach thing...we can both change in and out of bathers while wrapped in a towel (a bit Houdini-like, really!), and our back packs become wet pack, dry pack for the trip home.

There's a gorgeous square close to the house...Pjazza San Gorg, where we've found a great café for breakfast...best coffee I've had in Malta!  It's quite a meeting place, with one side of the square fronted by Basilica of St George, dating to 1678.  The church is very active and we've watched the congregation exit into the square and gather in groups of friends and family at the café tables.  We had dinner tonight in the Pjazza at Stanley's Chippy...British fish and chips at their best!  Battered cod, chips and mushy peas (or salad, if you're like me and mushy peas don't take your fancy)!  A perfectly scrumptious end to a sea-salty day.
