Une bonne journee spent wandering through the 5th and 6th arrondissements. Began the day with petit dejeuner at La Preau, glimpsing residents soaking up the Parisian views from their apartment windows. It was a Melbourne weather day, changing from clear blue skies to sudden dark downpours - but do we care??? Saint Germain and the Latin quarter are a bounty of bookshops, being historically the literary quartiers and now home to students of the Sorbonne. Even the many bookshops that stock only French publications are a joy to browse, the books displayed with such care that you cannot help but be drawn in. Brent spent (a lot of) time in second-hand CD shops, picking up some bargains for his 80s collection, and when I tired of the CD-thumbing I watched the passing parade of les chiens of all furry shapes and sizes.
Headed back to the right bank via the Pont des Arts where the mesh fence is hung with padlock declarations of love. Sort of a strange thing je pense, but apparently it's a worldwide phenomonen.
Home with baguette in hand and ready for happy hour (ooh, j'adore those 5 euro bottles of vin!)

Oh, Sally, how lovely everything looks and sounds. It's almost as if I'm there with you instead of typing transcript! Can't wait to see and hear more. Alison.
Hi Sally & Brent, Do you care??? NO NO NO. What a lovely way to spend some time, sitting watching a passing parade of les chiens, just bliss. G&L
Hi Sally & Brent
Padlocks as declarations of love, what's going on there? Red long stemmed roses and a bottle of champagne are obviously no longer considered sufficient displays of passion in the City of Love.
Soon instead of chocolates, young romantics will be wooing their loved ones with screwdriver sets; sonnets will be rejected in favour of fifty page instruction booklets on how to service your lawnmower.
However, it's not a very original gesture; Fiona has been hanging padlocks on her bra and undies for years to make her thoughts on love quite clear. In response I've gone straight down to Bunnings and bought a pair of heavy duty industrial strength bolt-cutters.
Who would have thought a few years ago that Australia would have something to teach the French about amour?
Fiona, Ruby & Paul
