A bientot Paris

Spent out last day in Paris wandering through the Bastille, the Marais, Saint Paul and a visit to a photographic exhibition, Cimetieres du Monde, at Pere Lachaise cemetery. Pere Lachaise is an incredibly beautiful cemetery - ancient, treed and serene - and we visited sites we hadn't before - Max Ernst, Isadora Duncan - and revisited some, including the emotional statuary and tributes to those who died in concentration camps and fighting for France.
It has been an absolutely wonderful holiday, some brief trips out of Paris but much time spent just being local; and it's been perfect. I will always remember arriving at the apartment, Gerard waiting at Des Mousquetaires, coffee together and that first conversation in mixed French and English - it felt like coming home.
In the words of 80s French band Telephone:
In Paris,
we piss in the streets.
In Paris,
we kiss who we meet.
In Paris,
we love what we eat.
In Paris,
we eat who we love.
In Paris,
that's how we do in Paris.
In Paris,
in Paris,
in Paris...
