Autour du Chat Noir

Off to the 18th arrondissement today to Musee de Montmartre et les jardins Renoir for an exhibition illustrating the history of the Chat Noir cabaret.  The musee comprises the studio of Auguste Renoir during the early years of Impressionism and the main building, which was home to many artists and writers of the time.  The gardens have been replanted with flowers depicted in Renoir's works and from the garden you have a view over the adjacent vineyards, which have existed since the Middle Ages.

The exhibition was a wonderful mix of lithographs, aquarelle (watercolours) and pastels, ink sketches and photographs depicting the bohemian artistic life that flourished around Montmarte and the cabarets like Chat Noir.

While I was purchasing the entrance tickets, Brent wandered off with the camera and captured the current Chat Noir relaxing in the garden.  I had to remind him there was more to the exhibition than this living exhibit - methinks he pines for Romeo!

The 3rd photo in this blog series looks really familiar - it looks like a painting of the 'House at Rueil' by Edouard Manet. Your photos are so beautiful, I am not sure if you are in a painting or on a holiday? Je ne comprends pas, Fi
