Croissant and coffee at Le Preau before the Marais residents rise for brunch on Sunday and then to the Hotel de Ville, which is open to the public as part of Journees du Patrimoine. J'adore cette batiment! Every year there is so much going on at Hotel de Ville, the building that houses the city of Paris administration, and this is the first time we have ventured inside. Fantastique! Especially beautiful (pour moi) were the 1930s stained glass windows depicting various activities of the city. In the salles of the building there was the opportunity to chat to and watch in action the employees at the building, eg the cleaners, the florists and the electricians - all of whom should be held in awe for the care they take in maintaining the marble escaliers, frescoed walls, parquet floors and chandeliers. We had a short wait in the queue to enter but were entertained by a jazz band who were still playing when we passed on our way home much later in the day (had to laugh as M. Rockwiz whispered the details of each tune to me..."That's Ladies Night by Kool and the Gang..."That's...)
A coffee break and then on to the Musee de la Chasse et de la Nature - a little creepy, being a musee of the hunt and of nature, but softened somewhat by the sculpture of the current exhibition by Francoise Petrovitch. There were wonderful picture boxes where the identity and habits of the bird or animal were described in drawings and words on the outside of the box, you knelt on a stool and peered through binoculars into the box to catch a glimpse of the creature somewhere in shadowy transparencies inside.
Une bonne journee!

Hi Sally & Brent, Quelle bonne journee indeed. Can understand the Musee de la Chasse could be a little creepy, but the sculpture does look quite lovely. What a treat to have M. Rockwiz at your side. L&G
