Loved exploring the island of Lido. One side of the island faces the Laguna, the other the ocean. At the beaches you must pay for a hut, a beachbox, a cabana-type shelter or just about anything you might need for a day at the beach - keeps the tourist riff raff away and no unsightly towels spread on the sand, just lounges under shade, an airconditioned bar here and there, hire boats with water slides. The Italians lurvvve the sun and the beach lounges were occupied by the bronze, very bronze and extreme bronze signori of a certain age - de rigueur of the men a tiny bikini pant tucked under their all-over tanned pot bellies!
In the evening saw the movie Carnage - loved it. Based on a French play and with only four actors - Jodie Foster, John C Reilly, Kate Winslet and Christophe Waltz.
Intended to see WE, the new movie by Madonna, but first screening attempt - no Italian subtitles. This was greeted after 10 minutes by some vocal protests from the audience (although I must say Brent was protesting quietly about how slow and uninteresting the initial minutes of the film were). Second screening attempt - still no subtitles and a more vocal audience yelling out their own dialogue. Further delays, an increasingly restless audience and no indication of when the screening would recommence. We decided to leave and instead were entertained by a starlit vaporetto trip across the laguna and a walk through the quiet, darkened calles and campos to the apartment. Ahh, Venezia.

You have painted a wonderful image of the Italians who lurvvve the sun. Did you manage the 'photo of Al Pacino at the festivel? L&G
