Le week-end...les puces de Vanves

We were up early this morning...must have been that quiet Saturday!  Wandered down to La Cuisine de Bar for petit-dejeuner...brioche perdue pour moi, tartine toastee pour Monsieur.  Cuisine de Bar is part of the Poilâne business and, although the bakery is closed on Sundays, the menu at Cuisine de Bar offers tasty treats using exclusively Poilâne bread and pastries.

A short walk to the 95 bus, and then off to Les puces de Porte de Vanves.  (we're mastering the bus this year...and finding that often it's much more direct than the metro)

We love the Porte de Vanves flea market.  There are all kinds of treasures - both on the trestles and behind the tables!  My favourite stall-holders today...two crusty gents playing backgammon on an ancient board, cigarettes dangling from their lips to keep hands free to roll the dice and move the playing pieces, framed by an old Persian rug hanging over the fence behind them.  I would bet that the backgammon set, table and chairs they were sitting on, and the Persian rug were for sale - but you'd probably get an emphatic "Non!" if you enquired before the game was complete!

The other joy of the market is les chiens.  My favourite four-legged friend today was a little terrier who slept cosily on his bed, directly in front of his owner's trestle table, not at all concerned about the foot traffic around him!

Monsieur picked up a couple of rarities that made him smile (so much so that one of the stall-holders laughingly said, "you are happy, non?"!) - an original 1980 Mad Max soundtrack and a 1979 Bob Dylan French promo 12".

Hi Sally & Brent, Monsieur looks very intent searching for a treasure from the flea market. The little terrier does look very content, and perhaps has become quite accustomed to the foot traffic...Love, L&G
