Poilâne starts our Saturday

A quiet Saturday.  We love having unplanned weekends...it provides the opportunity to slip anonymously into the Parisien weekend lifestyle.  Saturday starts late and gathers momentum...late afternoon lunch, aperitifs...then the local shops close about 7-ish and the dinner crowd drifts into the streets.  I love the night-time scooter sounds...

We decided this morning to café out, but petit-déjeuner in.  We walked down to Poilâne, a nearby boulangerie.  The bakery dates back to 1932 and its original location was the same shop in rue du Cherche-Midi.  It's very much a Paris institution...sadly, recent history has seen the family suffer some tragedy.  But, today, ooh la la!  We left with a croissant and pain au chocolat, brioche flavoured with épices, and nut bread.  Coffee on the way home - un allongé et café creme - and then to the apartment for the spoils from Poilâne.
