Taormina...more around town

Quiet day today...early morning sunrise, breakfast at Bam Bar and a wander around town.

It's beautiful in the morning.  Taormina is touristy and the centre of town is busy (crazy busy!) at all times except in the morning.  It will stay like this until schools go back in about a week's time.

We make the most of the quiet time.  It's the one time of day when we can appreciate the beauty of the labyrinth of tiny, cobblestoned streets.

Apart from Bam Bar for a breakfast I wish I could have every day...we have discovered Roberto's for cannoli.  When you order a cannoli, Roberto takes the scrumptious freshly-baked shell and fills it with creamy ricotta, sprinkles it with pralined almonds and sugar, and hands it to you on a paper serviette...he never accepts payment first, insisting instead "take a seat, relax"...and we sit outside his shop on the red cushions, loving every bite!  Roberto is warm and gracious, with a wicked sense of humour...and a maestro of other sweet treats as well.

We have also discovered Sicilian Store, a shop specialising in typically Sicilian products and with a sandwich menu that can't be beat.  It's a family business and the son, Enrico, is rather gorgeous and happy to share his recommendations on local wine, honey, beer, and anything else you find in the store.  Outside the shop, you can perch on low, cushion-topped stools and enjoy your sandwich with a Sicilian beer, vino or softy.

When in Taormina...these are a few of my favourite things!

PS - if you look closely at the Bam Bar photo you might see Brent and the waitress doing their long distance conversation re the bill!
