Sunday was the Regatta Storica - a celebration of gondolas - with a procession and racing on the Grande Canal. Vaporettos (the Venice water bus) were due to resume service at "about 7pm", which is about the time we need to leave on the 40 minute trip to Lido. Things were running late and there was no way we would make the first film. Instead, we thought, we'll go to the open air cinema in Campo San Polo, just near the apartment, which shows the festival films the day after screening. We could see Contagion, which we missed on Saturday night. Just as the film began at 9pm the thunderstorm we had been watching approach broke - up went the umbrellas throughout the audience, plastic ponchos were donned and some just braved the rain. It didn't last long - that first time - and then the umbrella was up and down intermittently. About halfway through the film the storm really hit and the projector was turned off. I think Brent would still have stayed if the film was running - his theory being that your seat stayed dry if you didn't stand up! So we saw the first half of Contagion but then had to take our sodden bods home!

Hi Sally et Brent, We too missed a film recently because of a mix up, but it was a fortunate event as we ran into the lovely Aaron at the chip shop in Carlton. We toasted you both with our sushi. I understand Brent's concept of sitting to keep a seat dry, but he will be extremely dried if lightning hits! Fi
Don't think you will be making that mistake again with the bus - only hope the bruschetta and beer were delicious. L&G
