A quiet day

Today was a holiday in France for the Catholic celebration of the Assumption of Mary.  We decided to join in the public holiday atmosphere and sleep in, make breakfast at home, spend an hour or so in the park and then wander home again.

It is quiet in Paris at the moment, with many shops closed until about now - mid August - for annual holidays.  I love that the boulangeries and tabacs not only put a sign on the door for their holiday dates, but they also tell you where to find the nearest open equivalent.

We spent an hour or so wandering through the Jardin du Luxembourg - viewing exhibitions by local artists in l'orangerie - a walk along Boulevard Saint-Germain and then home.  If we lived here, then we may have spent the day doing exactly the same thing...j'aime ça!

How beautiful is that Metro sign - it's such a great Art Nouveau font. And I have already started a cross stitch illustration of the flowers in a vase above the two green chairs. Your photos always inspire me, just like Paris does to you.

Hi Sally & Brent, We agree with the previous 'commentarian' the Metro sign is lovely. Those green chairs keep appearing everywhere in the gardens - irresistible. What a very pleasant way to spend the day celebrating the Assumption of Mary. Love, L&G
