The Tuileries and beyond

Gorgeous 29 degrees in Paris today.  We planned to walk through the Tuileries, so sunglasses were a must ... that white gravel can be blinding in the sun!

We started with croissant et café at Le Café des Beaux-Arts on Quai Malaquais.  A really pretty café opposite the Seine and the bouquiniste bookstalls.  Across the Pont du Carrousel and we were at the Louvre, following the white gravel paths to a shady spot in the Tuileries.  We found ourselves a pair of those oh-so-Parisian green chairs and sat in the shade alongside the garden beds, me with my legs lolling in the sunshine.  Bliss!

We wandered the length of the Tuileries to Place de la Concorde, then across rue de Rivoli to rue Saint Honoré, which we followed to Palais-Royal, a gorgeous square of arcades surrounding what were once palace gardens, at one end the Cour d'Honneur with its unmistakable striped columns by Daniel Buren.  You can feel the history here and it's one of the most pleasurable wanders in Paris.

Exiting to rue de Valois, we found a quiet café bar for a leisurely lunch - Bistro Valois - a hushed and picturesque oasis tucked away from the chaotic traffic of rue Saint Honoré.

Then heading towards Chatelet we visited a favourite record and book store, Librairie Parallèles, and then the long walk home ... made it back across the elegant and grand Pont Neuf and then hopped a bus home!

Une bonne journée!
